Leadership Institute
Leadership Institute (L.I.) Houston 2008
Proposal:
The brothers of the Georgia Tech Chapter are trying to send 16 brothers to the Leadership Institute this year in Houston, Texas. The Leadership Institute is a weekend long retreat that focuses on the fundamentals of building a better chapter. The programming offered at L.I. focuses on values based recruiting, leadership training, membership development and education, building better alumni relations and many other skills. The programming at the Leadership Institute is led by industry professionals. The brothers that have consistently gone to L.I have reported that the programming has gotten better ever year.
Benefits: Why send sixteen?
The 2 or 3 brothers that usually go to L.I. are usually motivated to change the chapter for the better. The brothers that go to L.I. are given the opportunity to fully understand and appreciate what Delta Upsilon could be. Brothers learn how to become better leaders in the chapter and are motivated to recruit men that will add value to the fraternity. This past year IHQ has hired an excellent recruitment consultant that teaches members how to recruit based on values and standards.
Over the next two semesters our chapter will have an exodus of members and chapter leaders due to graduation. We also want to build a better chapter. Currently we have many members in our chapter that are motivated but don’t fully understand the purpose of Delta Upsilon. Sending many of our young members to L.I will expose them to common problems that chapters face and how to deal with them. L.I will also provide invaluable leadership training from paid professionals. The current executive staff has extensive experience in creating and implementing member education programming and leadership training. This is better than the Leadership Institute you remember!
Sending 16 people to L.I would reinvigorate roughly 1/3 of our chapter and would result in recruiting men that will add to the value of our chapter as well train our existing members to be better brothers and leaders!
What will my investment be?
The total costs, including transportation for all 16 brothers, equal $5287. The undergraduates of the Georgia Tech Chapter are budgeting $2000 dollars towards L.I. Each undergraduate will attempt to fundraise $100. All we are asking is that alumni match each undergraduate with a donation of $100.
This invaluable contribution will allow one brother to go to L.I.
Here is what we are doing to fundraise:
Each undergraduate going to L.I is responsible for raising $100. A brother can pay this $100 himself or fundraise it.
If I wanted to donate what would be the best way to do so?
We are proud to announce that The Georgia Tech Chapter Alumni has established a Chapter Educational Account (CEA) through the Delta Upsilon Educational Foundation. A CEA provides us the ability to route gifts through the Foundation for the specific use of the Georgia Tech Chapter. By setting up the CEA, the Foundation is able to provide us with the tax-deductible medium for all gifts donated on behalf of the Georgia Tech Chapter.
Your gifts go directly to the Educational Foundation into a specific designated account for the Georgia Tech Chapter. Those funds can only be retrieved by the Georgia Tech Alumni via a grant request from the Foundation and can be used only for educational purposes such as improving the study, sending brothers to the Leadership Institute or the Winter Educational Conference, supplying travel expenses to and from conferences, upgrading the ethernet and computer systems in the chapter facility and even "bricks and mortar" construction on rooms with educational uses. You can find TONS more information here: CEA INFO.
Gifts may be given online at www.DUEF.org. (Click "Donate Now") and choose "Georgia Tech CEA" from the dropdown menu. Checks may also be sent directly to the DUEF by mail. Checks should be made out to "DUEF", and denote "Georgia Tech CEA" in the memo line. Donors may also transfer stock to us, which may be designated towards the CEA as well. Information on how to transfer stock is also available on the website under the "Giving" tab.
